As a kid I was obsessed with visual culture, but if you asked ten year old me me what I was into I probably would have told you “pictures and stuff”.
I collected, dissected and re-created the things that spoke to me. Magazines, album packaging, pop bottles, skate decks, logos and cartoon characters. I took to making my own versions on my Dad’s Macintosh.
In my 20's I found myself going through the motions in a BFA program. A couple sketchy report cards made it clear that changes were needed. It had never occurred to me that the things I loved as a kid were the foundation to career in design. I applied for a design position at my university newspaper, got it, loved the work and quickly got the hint to get out of dodge and into a Design School.
10 years later, I feel fortunate to having found a way to to pay the bills by doing the stuff I did for fun as a kid. This keeps me an engaged and generally pleasant guy to work beside.
For the past 3 years I have worked as a Campaigns Designer at Lush Cosmetics. In that time I’ve been responsible for in-store, customer facing work. I’ve played an important role in the conceptual, production and execution of campaigns.
My involvement on the campaigns team has taken me to overseas offices and put my name on projects and team rosters that I’m proud to have been a part of.
Outside of work I spend time doing freelance illustration, making one off products with friends and volunteer editorial art direction for non profit publications. Sitting still is not really my bag.
